Our thoughts are with those across the country who have been affected by the extreme weather conditions. We understand the difficult circumstances this has created and share concern for the safety and comfort of all affected. If your home’s water heating system and/or heating system have been impacted by recent severe winter weather, here is some helpful information and resources available to you:

Rheem Water Heating customers impacted by winter weather:

If you are experiencing a leak from your water heater, we recommend that you immediately turn off the water and gas or electrical supply to the unit and call your plumber to determine your service options. If the past freezing temperatures caused a burst pipe not within the water heater, you should turn off your home’s main water supply to prevent further damage and contact a plumber for assistance. Rheem® tankless water heaters are designed for both indoor and outdoor applications. However, freeze protection instructions and uninterrupted power supply to the water heaters must be maintained to protect the internal components of the water heaters. If it is determined, by a licensed professional, the unit is not operating due to freeze conditions, please note that this is not covered under the Rheem Tankless Gas Warranty. You can verify your water heater warranty and call our Customer Tankless Gas Support Team at 1-866-720-2076. If you are experiencing issues unrelated to freeze conditions, please refer to the Care & Use manual on hand or download a copy from our website.

Rheem Heating and Air Conditioning customers impacted by winter weather:

For installations involving 90 Plus high efficiency gas-fired furnaces which may have been exposed to temperatures below 32°F (0°C), please take precautions when restarting the furnace and look for any presence of water at or around the furnace. If water is observed, please contact a licensed professional contractor to evaluate the situation and determine cause. The contractor should ensure that the drain trap and connected drain pipe have not frozen and are not cracked due to freezing temperatures. For future operation, local codes and practices should be followed in order to prevent freezing.

Rinnai Tankless Freeze Information

Rinnai Tankless Information | How does cold weather affect my tankless water heaters?

A Rinnai tankless water heater features built-in freeze protection. When protected from direct wind exposure and connected to both power and gas, the water heater offers freeze protection down to -22°F (-30°C) for indoor models or as cold as -4°F (-20°C) for outdoor models. Though the water heater itself is protected from freezing, plumbing and valves to the water heater are not. Therefore, pipes and valves going to the water heater must be heat traced and insulated to protect them from freezing.

A professional plumber will follow installation recommendations so your unit can operate optimally, even in cold weather.
